Cyber Safety

Digital learning is an important part of education today. When combined with quality teaching, the purposeful and effective use of digital technologies improves learning.

Cyber Safety is an integral part of our Learning Technologies program at Keilor Heights PS. Students from Foundation—Year 6 are taught how to use technology and the internet in a safe and responsible way. Cyber safety is a team effort between the student, family and school.

The Digital Technologies curriculum “…encourages students to be discerning decision makers by considering different ways of managing the interactions between digital systems, people, data and processes (information systems) and weighing up the possible benefits and potential risks for society and the environment.”

(VCAA Digital Technologies Curriculum Rationale 2019)

At Keilor Heights PS all students participate in the ‘Cyber Safety Project’ to ensure that they are equipped with tools they will need to become 21st Century Digital Citizens. The Cyber Safety Project works with our community by: engaging with students from Foundation to Year 6 through an incursion, providing Staff with Professional Development and a Curriculum Portal, as well as presenting an after school Webinar to parents. Through their participation in the Cyber Safety Project, all Keilor Heights PS students will be provided with the space and time to learn and understand the way that they can connect and interact safely through digital platforms, devices, sites, apps and gaming networks.

Each year we hold an information session for parents to provide them with up to date knowledge of social networking sites, Apps and online games. These sessions will also aim to help parents assist their children in using these sites positively and safely.
